Deadline guaranteed packet scheduling for overloaded traffic in input-queued switches

چکیده
Many applications need to solve the deadline guaranteed packet scheduling problem. However, it is a very difficult problem if three or more deadlines are present in a set of packets to be scheduled. The traditional approach to dealing with this problem is to use EDF (Earliest Deadline First) or similar methods. Recently, a non-EDF based algorithm was proposed that constantly produces a higher throughput than EDF-based algorithms by repeatedly finding an optimal scheduling for two classes. However, this new method requires the two classes be non-overloaded, which greatly restricts its applications. Since the overloaded situation is not avoidable from one iteration to the next in dealing with multiple classes, it is compelling to answer the open question: Can we find an optimal schedule for two overloaded classes efficiently? This paper first proves that this problem is NP-complete. Then, this paper proposes an optimal preprocessing algorithm that guarantees to drop a minimum number of packets from the two classes such that the remaining set is non-overloaded. This result directly improves on the new method. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Deadline Aware Scheduling for Input Queued Packet Switches
We study the problem of designing scheduling algorithms for deadline-aware input-queued (IQ) packet switches. While most research on scheduling algorithms for IQ switches has focused on maximizing throughput, packet deadlines are a key consideration in the context of real-time applications like multimedia streaming and video telephony. We consider traffic streams associated with service profile...
متن کاملIntegration of Unicast and Multicast Scheduling in Input-Queued Packet Switches with High Scalability
This paper focuses on the scalability problems for high-speed switches, and presents an integrated scheduling algorithm that supports unicast and multicast traffic efficiently in input-queued packet switches. Considering the tradeoff balancing complexity and performance, the proposed integrated algorithm performs without iteration, and reduces the scheduling overhead to O(N) with a two-phase (r...
متن کاملMax-Min Fair Input-Queued Switching
Fairness in traffic management can improve the isolation between traffic streams, offer a more predictable performance, eliminate transient bottlenecks, mitigate the effect of certain kinds of denial-ofservice attacks, and serve as a critical component of a quality-ofservice strategy to achieve certain guaranteed services such as delay bounds and minimum bandwidths. While fairness in bandwidth ...
متن کاملOn the Provision of Integrated Qos Guarantees of Switches * Unicast and Multicast Traffic in Input - Queued
In this paper, we address the problem of providing QoS guarantees for multiple input-queued switching architecture. Stable matching of inputs and outputs is used for scheduling the enqueued packets to be transmitted across the switching fabric. With an in-depth theoretic analysis on the properties of stable matching in the context of a multiple input-queued switch, we propose efficient schemes ...

This study investigates the problem of enabling Quality of Service (QoS) of multimedia traffic at the input port of high-performance input-queued packet switches using a simulation-based evaluation. We focus on the possibility of assuring QoS of multimedia traffic in such switches by implementing traffic prioritization at the input port where each input-queue has been modified to provide a sepa...
